First few days planned and local ferries booked

The first few days from Saturday morning arrival to Tuesday evening have been mapped and the route is beginning to take shape on the map below. Another cycle ride over the sea across the length of the 22 mile Afsluijt dyke to Harlingen should be fun. It always amazes me how they built such a structure to keep the sea out of Holland.

Ferry booked

Plunge taken. Return ferry North Shields to Amsterdam booked.  First island visit -Texel pronounced Tesel- 50 miles North of landing in Holland.  Accomodation booked for first night. Its a large island. Six towns or villages to visit. Bike will be well oiled. Tonsils may not, as mileage on this week is important. More soon 🚴🚵

A week's cycling on remote islands

A free week in May calls for a quick dash to Holland on the ferry and some cycling-island hopping. I'm hoping if enough local ferries are running to "bag" Texel, Vrieland, West Terschelling, Ameland (again!) and Schiermonikoog before returning to the Dutch mainland at Lauwersoog and making my way back to Amsterdam.

So five islands in six days, a tall order but I have a fair idea of routes already so its just the bits that I can't control - small local ferries between islands, some ruled by the tidal forces which are every six hours in the very shallow Wadden Sea.
